SENIOR DESIGNER

What training do you have that helps in your current role?

I didn’t go to university when I left school, as I had no idea what I wanted to do at that point! So I started out as an apprentice sales associate at a high street jewellery retailer, where I gained valuable customer experience and learned the basics of the jewellery world. From there, I then worked on the busy repairs counter at a traditional family jewellers, which gave me a huge insight into the technical workings of jewellery.

How long have you worked in the jewellery industry/your current role?

I started at Jessica Flinn Fine Jewellery over three years ago now. I’ve managed to progress so quickly in the company already, working my way from a sales role into design. In a workplace where your talents are nurtured and you’re encouraged to grow, it was an easy transition from sales into product design. I’ve definitely found my dream career!

Tell me about how it is working in your team

Apart from our Principal Designer and CEO, Jessica Flinn-Allen, I am the only member of our team whose main responsibility is product design. Our wider team is extremely collaborative, so you could also say I work as part of a team, as my colleagues are incredibly helpful with their insights and suggestions.

What is the best thing about your job?

I absolutely love having the creative freedom to showcase my designs! Especially if I’m given a particularly challenging brief… I enjoy researching different eras of jewellery styles throughout history to take inspiration from and adapt in my own way. I then create 2D designs showing the pieces from all angles to pitch to Jessica, before passing these on to Charlotte, our CAD designer once approved to get those final 3D renders.

What has been a career/job highlight for you?

Definitely winning an award last year at the Professional Jeweller Awards! I was presented with the Young Jewellery Designer of the Year 2022, and it was an absolutely amazing feeling. It still doesn’t feel real… I’ve worked so hard to get here, there’s no stopping me now!

What's your favourite piece and why?

It's got to be Ada, she was my first ever design when I first started with Jessica Flinn so I feel quite attached to her haha!

Natasha Wilkinson

PURCHASING AND PROCUREMENT EXECUTIVE

What training do you have that helps in your current role?

I have a degree in human biology, which may sound completely unrelated, but the skills I honed in data analysis during those academic years have proven to be unexpectedly valuable. These analytical abilities have seamlessly transitioned into the realm of the jewellery business, particularly in my role of studying sales data to make informed decisions about our stock purchases.

How long have you worked in the jewellery industry/your current role?

I have worked in the jewellery industry for a total of 4 years and I have been in my current role for just over a year. I've enjoyed every moment of my time at Jessica Flinn and can't wait to continue my work here!

Tell me about how it is working in your team

Working in such a collaborative and supportive team has not only enriched my professional journey but also nurtured an environment where innovative ideas thrive. The collective creativity and shared enthusiasm in our team make every workday a joy, and I'm grateful for the camaraderie that fuels our success.

What is the best thing about your job?

It's so hard to pick! The people I work with make my job amazing, and who can complain about spending their days surrounded by gorgeous gemstones? It's like having the best of both worlds!

What has been a career/job highlight for you?

I really enjoyed attending the Inhorgenta jewellery fair in Munich earlier this year. I learned so much and it was a great experience, plus who doesn't love a weekend away with the girls!

What's your favourite piece and why?

My favourite piece is Harper. I just love her art deco twist on a trilogy ring.

Working in such a dynamic and varied team is always good fun. I especially love working alongside the design team and seeing the work we share come to life; it's incredibly fulfilling to witness our creative ideas materialise into stunning pieces of jewellery that our customers adore.

What is the best thing about your job?

As someone who prefers to get creative in my own space, the freedom to be able to work from home is a massive plus for me. I also find my work very rewarding. Being there along someone's journey at such a special time in their lives is such a privilege, and I love creating special pieces for people. It's a wonderful feeling to contribute to their most precious moments.

What has been a career/job highlight for you?

One of the standout moments in my career has been right here at Jessica Flinn. Starting in the sales department and then transitioning into a CAD designer role was a significant turning point. This opportunity showcased the trust Jessica and the entire team had in me, and it has allowed me to genuinely thrive in my current position. It's been a transformative journey that has greatly enriched my career.

What's your favourite piece and why?

Aneesa is a personal favourite of mine; her elegant graduated halo beautifully encircles the centre stone. Additionally, I have a soft spot for Rebecca, as she combines a traditional design with a unique twist.
