Olivia Stoddart

SALES TEAM LEADER

What training do you have that helps in your current role?

I’ve trained as a teacher, and I’ve worked in retail many a time over the years, so I’ve got the people skills, patience, and ability to ask the right directed questions to ensure we find the dream ring that the customer is picturing!

How long have you worked in the jewellery industry/your current role?

Before Jess hired me, I’d never worked in the industry! In her words “you’re my wildcard, but I think you might be worth it!“. She took a chance on me, and I’ve enjoyed every minute, so I like to think her risk paid off!

Tell me about how it is working in your team

My team is FAB. We all bring something slightly different to the table, whether it’s the ability to remember rings going back years, incredible creativity, great problem-solving skills, or simply just boosting everyone’s morale. We work together to create each customer’s ring - no individual sales targets means we genuinely value each other’s abilities, and rely on each other to help create beautiful pieces of jewellery.

What is the best thing about your job?

Staff discount? No, it’s actually the people. My colleagues are a sheer joy to be around, and the customers are all brilliant too! One of the customers actually pointed me in the direction of a wedding dress shop where I eventually bought my dress - thanks Rachel!

What has been a career/job highlight for you?

Outside of Jessica Flinn, I really enjoyed my job as a youth worker - teenagers are great, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! I got to present to potential funders, and help to raise money to help young people. Inside Jessica Flinn, it’s been travelling to a trade show, and being nominated for the Retail Jeweller 30 Under 30 after only being in my job for 18 months!

What is your favourite piece and why?

My favourite Jessica Flinn ring is my own engagement ring, Ophelia! My favourite Flinn & Steel piece is the Wharncliffe as it’s the ring my partner wears!

How long have you worked in the jewellery industry/your current role?

I set foot on this glittering path in the jewellery industry more than 15 years ago, my passion for it has been with me since my younger days. So, it's no wonder that I've been a part of this world for so long! As for my journey at Jessica Flinn, I recently celebrated my sparkling 3-year workiversary.

I love so many designs, it’s so hard for me to pick just one! I absolutely love a green or teal light to mid shade sapphire. I love Portia, and also the Art Deco style rings that hold unique shapes diamonds as well as centre stones!

I previously worked in a bespoke fine art printing company, so this definitely helped me with the bespoke aspect of creating the perfect rings for our customers! It’s been lovely to be able to utilise my graphic design and creative skills, whilst combining this with our exciting fast paced showroom environment.

What is the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is the people! Working with such a fab bunch of humans has honestly been such a joy. Also, being able to say I’ve spent a day working with gorgeous gemstone rings isn’t bad either.

What has been a career/job highlight for you?

My career highlight would be probably be seeing my first customers ring from concept to finished product. It’s been very interesting to be so involved in the entire process, from design concepts, stone sourcing, watching the CAD be created and seeing the final ring!

What is your favourite piece and why?

My favourite piece at the moment (it changes daily) is the stunning new Juliette design in yellow gold - so pretty!!

Peter Kane

JEWELLERY STYLIST

What training do you have that helps in your current role?

I have come from a sales-oriented background and have been a Stylist at various boutiques in London and at John Lewis, where I received brilliant training. The company’s values of honesty and guidance aligns with my beliefs as a seller which has guided me throughout my time at Jessica Flinn as well! From working on the markets in Camden to styling clients on Kings Road in Chelsea, all of my training has come from hands-on, front-facing communicative roles. I love people and have an interest in them and that is the first factor that plays a huge part in my role.

How long have you worked in the jewellery industry/your current role?

My first role in the jewellery industry was...this one! I love it and I have already learnt so much and I love the fact that I will learn so much more in this role as a Showroom Stylist. I have done everything from sourcing stones to designing wedding bands. Had I had known this type of job existed when I was younger, I would have jumped at the chance!

Tell me about how it is working in your team

My Team is very supportive and I feel we synchronise and help each other out, so naturally. Some days I have back to back appointments so my other Team members may do lovely acts of consideration such as 'replying to emails' or making our customers a cup of coffee as I show them our ring selection.

What is the best thing about your job?

Meeting our customers and creating fantastic memories through their love of our products. Just to listen to their connection to our rings and designs is music to my ears and we attract such a diversity of people. This is what I love! No two people are the same and I love having that connection with so many customers!

What has been a career/job highlight for you?

Career highlight is going to the NAJ awards and wearing my bright hot pink suit! I was nominated for Retail Salesperson of the year. I didn't win it but I got an honorary mention! I feel we put House Of Flinn on the map and can't wait for us to win more deserved awards! Pow!

What is your favourite piece and why?

My favourite Jessica Flinn ring is actually the new 'Olivia', I think it is beautifully unisex and it allows a chap to have a stack ! I love the shape of it!!! I'd also team it with 2 Quinns either side. It's lush!
