salt & pepper diamond engagement rings:

an expert's guide

enter our world of one-of-a-kind salt & pepper diamonds

'White' or colourless diamonds are most people's 'go-to' gemstone when it comes to engagement rings, and have been for many years. It's no wonder, as they're absolutely beautiful, and it's a tradition for a reason. BUT, we like to do things differently here at Jessica Flinn, and we encourage people to be unique and stand out from the crowd when it comes to choosing their engagement ring. More and more we're seeing couples choosing alternative gemstones, and we believe Salt & Pepper Diamonds are the perfect choice for those looking for something unique and one-of-a-kind. And we're there for that!

so what are salt & pepper diamonds?

Salt and Pepper Diamonds are exactly the same material as 'white' or colourless diamonds, except they have beautiful a beautiful black and white speckled appearance that is completely unique to each stone. You'll never find two the same.

Technically, these speckles are black, white or grey inclusions, which used to be considered as negative when it came to diamonds. Now, people can appreciate the beauty of these stones, and they're becoming more and more popular.

Salt & Pepper Diamonds range from misty white, to celestial grey and silver, to dark and smoky black - there's a stone out there for everyone, and you'll never see another one like it.

pros and cons of salt & pepper diamonds

Salt & Pepper Diamonds have an abundance of character, and are perfectly imperfect, just like us! Their 'flaws' are what make them unique, and in our book that's all the more reason to choose on for your engagement ring. Generally Salt & Pepper Diamonds are more affordable than their white diamond equivalent, and are considered a more eco-friendly option as they require fewer resources to mine.

These stunning gemstones have a MOHs scale hardness of 10, and are suitable for everyday wear. Some diamonds have inclusions that reach the surface, and can be seen with the naked eye. These inclusions shouldn't worry you, however if you're hands on (or maybe a liiiiiittle bit clumsy), these can be a slightly weaker part of the stone and you should take care.

salt & pepper diamonds come in all shapes and sizes

Not only are these gemstones one-of-a-kind in their appearance, they can also be found in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and cuts, whatever tickles your fancy!

You can find classic shapes such as emerald cut, round, oval and pear shapes, or more alternative shapes such as hexagons, kites and even half moon and completely asymmetric cuts!

The majority of Salt & Pepper Diamonds are what we call 'Rose Cut' with fewer facets and a more domed shape than your traditional cuts. They are cut this way to accentuate their natural inclusions.
