The Hong Kong International Gem & Jewellery Shows 2024

Like every global industry, jewellery has its trade shows and conventions. And as jewellery is one of the oldest industries around, we are lucky that so many events have been running for decades! 

For the past ten years Hong Kong has hosted two amazing trade shows, available to both industry professionals and specialist collectors. The Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem, and Pearl Show & The Hong Kong International Jewellery Shows are run side by side in two outstandingly giant venues every year. 

Held in the AsiaWorld-Expo in the northeast corner of Chek Lap Kok, artisans, manufacturers, and entrepreneurs from all over the world visit to browse or exhibit! If you need glittering gems, alternative metals, or industry innovations, it's the place to be. 

We visited both shows this year, because as our business grows, it's important that we maintain our current standards! We made an ethical pledge and we plan to stick to it. Conscious sourcing is key to sustainable business practice, whether it's a scintillating lab grown diamond, or a delicious green gemstone, it needs to be sourced right. 

There is always something new to be discovered, and at Jessica Flinn, we aren't ever going to get stuck doing things the way they've always been done. We are a proud tech-forward business, so we’re always on the lookout for innovations that can deliver you the finest quality rings!

Our game plan for the gem show was focused on two areas. Conscious sourcing opportunities and lab grown diamonds! Of course we also had our eyes peeled for any new treasure that caught our attention. 

Pink gemstones, black diamonds, and green gemstones are trending as some of the most requested engagement ring centre stones, so we were ready to seek out some extra special sparkle! You can find your own gemstone sparkle by shopping our range of gemstones.

For a trade show with thousands of attendees, it’s no surprise that the gemstones on offer were focused towards a very traditional jewellery market. If you wanted to make a lab grown diamond ring, or a green gemstone ring made only with emeralds, you had no shortage of options! 

But if you know the type of jewellery we make here at Jessica Flinn, you know that tradition is not our vibe. So while there were plenty of suppliers who offered alternative gemstones, they didn't bring them to the exhibit. You’d have struggled to find a salt and pepper diamond within 50 miles. 

Lab grown diamonds may be king right now, but tourmalines are on the rise, and we are loving it! Stunning tourms come in every colour from a berry pink gemstone to a deep green gemstone. We adore them in every form, but sadly, even tourmalines were underrepresented.

Lab grown diamonds are a huge focus for the industry at the moment. But it’s not just the quality and production methods that are coming forward in leaps and bounds! It's also the way we approach sustainable manufacturing. 

We were on the lookout for lab grown diamonds made with 100% renewable energy. Part of our sustainable business practice plan is moving towards using as many renewable and recyclable sources as we can! 

Lab grown diamonds are synthetic, man-made diamonds that are chemically identical to natural diamonds in every way! Unlike simulated diamonds, these are the real deal! 

There are two main methods of producing lab grown diamonds: CVD and HPHT. You can even get a rainbow of diamond colours, so if you're on the hunt for a green gemstone engagement ring, green lab grown diamonds might be the key!

When we talk about the environmental impact of diamonds, we think mining. But lab grown diamonds require lots of energy, and that energy has to come from somewhere!

At JF we want to make an impact with our stylish designs and incredible stones, but not by adding to a growing environmental problem. It's our responsibility to make changes where we can. That includes using sustainable packaging, conscious-sourcing methods, and embracing any new tech that will help! 

It’s not just something for us to shout about. We already use recycled precious metals and postage materials, but we want to do more! Our entire gemstone journey to Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, and India has been about educating ourselves, and confirming that we are supporting the right kind of businesses.
