CARING FOR YOUR JEWELLERY
Jewellery Care
If you want your special piece to last a lifetime then it's crucial you know how best to care for it. This includes when and where you shouldn't wear your ring, as well as how to clean it. Take a look at our Jewellery Care Guide for detailed information on how to avoid jewellery damage.
What is Covered By the Manufacturer's Warranty
Here are some examples of defects that are covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, and if upon receipt of your item you report these issues to us, we will repair or replace your item within a reasonable timeframe. The timeframe in which your item can be repaired or replaced varies, therefore we will confirm the timeframe after the assessment of your item has been completed.
Porosity, surface pitting or other blemishes in the metal such as rhodium plating imperfections.
Scuffs and/or scratches to colourless diamonds or metals present at time of collection or upon delivery.
Loose stones at time of collection or upon delivery.
What isn't Covered By the Manufacturer's Warranty
Please note, the nature of metal casting and hand-finished jewellery means there will be variation and tolerance allowances for settings and finishes. We strive for incredibly high standards wherever possible, however jewellery crafting is not a science, and therefore we do allow a certain level of variation. Exclusions from the manufacturer's warranty include but are not limited to:
The finishing width, depth or height of the ring band varying from a showroom sample or CAD model, but within industry wide tolerances.
Scratches, scuffs, dents or abrasions on the settings or band. All precious metals are susceptible to signs of wear from the moment you begin wearing your jewellery.
Colour banding, inclusions (internal or surface reaching), facet variations and other natural gemstone variations.
Discolouration of metals due to contact with chemicals, cleaning products, make-up or similar, or general wear of rhodium plating.
Minor variations to claws or other parts of the setting - all of our pieces are hand finished, therefore there will be variation from piece to piece.
Pits and holes in your setting due to exposure to corrosive chemicals e.g. chlorine, bleach, heavy cleaning products.
Claws that have been caught, bent or worn due to general wear and tear. All claws will require remedial repairs over time, for re-tipping, tightening or brand new claws.
Chips, scratches, dents or other damage to gemstones due to wear and tear or accidental damage. Please take care to understand how best to care for your chosen gemstone - although some gemstones are incredibly strong, no gemstone is indestructible and must be treated with care. Certain gemstones or gemstone cuts are more susceptible to breakage, especially where the girdle of a stone is exposed. Please take extra care with any designs including straight or tapered baguette cut diamonds, or softer stones such as emerald, morganite, tanzanite and other stones of a similar strength on the MOHs scale. Diamonds, despite being one of the strongest natural materials on earth, are still susceptible to breakage if struck at a weak point, or if they receive knocks or impacts repeatedly, regardless of force. We recommend removing your jewellery in a number of different scenarios - please read our Care Guide for further information and recommendations.

Gemstone variations and inclusions
In order to offer a vast range of unique gemstones in our pieces, we must also accept that the beauty of these gemstones is subjective and open to interpretation, therefore gemstones that pass our quality control checks but are simply not to your liking for any reason are not deemed to be defective.
Natural gemstones contain variations in colour, inclusions (internal and surface reaching) and cuts, therefore this is not deemed to be a defect or fault. We celebrate unique, one of a kind gemstones, therefore many of our gemstones will have unique characteristics. We do our best to photograph the gemstones in a variety of environments, such as in artificial or natural light, however please note the gemstone's appearance will vary in different environments.
Salt and Pepper Diamonds in particular have many beautiful inclusions and unique characteristics, and are very often cut by hand. For this reason, many salt and pepper diamonds cuts are slightly irregular, and their dimensions are not calibrated like other gemstones.
Our Recommendations
Annual Jewellery Checks
We recommend having your jewellery checked by a professional at least once a year, in order to ensure the security of your gemstones and settings. Regularly having your jewellery cleaned and polished by a skilled jeweller will help your jewellery stand the test of time. We also recommend that remedial repairs such as claw tightening and re-tips are performed as required, as this may help to avoid your pieces requiring more extensive repairs over time.
Insurance
We strongly recommend that you insure your jewellery via an insurer of your choice, or our recommended jewellery insurer T H March. Please take care to read and understand the terms and conditions related to your chosen insurance policy.
Jewellery Aftercare
Please read our Jewellery Care Guide for more details on how best to care for your pieces. Different gemstones and metals have different care requirements - if you have any questions about how best to look after your jewellery, please get in touch at ruby@jessicaflinn.co.uk.
We recommend following the 'last on, first off' rule - your rings should be the last thing you put on before leaving the house, and the first thing you take off when returning home. Your jewellery should not be worn for activities such as washing up/doing the dishes, gardening, cleaning, showering, sleeping, going to the gym, DIY or anything other heavy activity. Remember - what might not be strenuous for you might be strenuous for your jewellery!
Complementary Resizing
Conditions
All engagement and wedding rings are eligible for a complementary resize within 3 months of delivery. You can purchase a (refundable after purchase) ring sizer for the most accurate results. Or, if you're trying to find your partners ring size without them knowing then take a look at our Ring Size Guide.
For Ready-to-Wear purchases, your complementary resize may be claimed immediately by opting for this at point of purchase. Alternatively, if you are not 100% sure of the ring size you or your partner needs, we recommend ordering in our stock size (N), and claiming your complementary resize later.
If you are unable to claim your resize within the above timeframe, please get in touch with us as soon as possible after delivery. We may be able to extend this period (within reason) under certain circumstances.
How to Claim Your Complementary Resize:
When you are ready to claim your complementary resize, please email us at ruby@jessicaflinn.co.uk, quoting your order number wherever possible, or the full name used to place the order.
Let us know whether you would like to post your ring to us, or if you would prefer to book an appointment to drop it off. Our team will then confirm the next steps, and any instructions for booking your appointment or how best to send your ring to us, including a form to include in your parcel.
