Are Sapphires Expensive in Different Colours?
Some colour sapphires are more expensive than others! If your sapphire is either cornflower or velvet blue it will probably be worth more. How saturated and even the colour is will also change the sapphires price.
Another expensive sapphire is the padparadscha! Its peachy-pink tones are dreamy in any ring, but there is a price tag attached. Don't worry though, sapphire colours come in a complete rainbow of options. There will be something for every budget, in every colour! Is My Blue Sapphire Worth Anything?
No matter how nice the colour of your sapphire is, it won't be worth anything if it has no clarity! You see these opaque sapphires in a lot of mass produced vintage rings, because they were affordable and easy to acquire!
If you love these stones, you’re in luck! They are very cheap compared to the classically more desirable sapphires.
What Should I Look For in a Sapphire?
If you're unsure about your sapphires price and quality, talk to your supplier. But if you want to be able to spot problems yourself, there are a few things to look out for!
Inclusions are number one! If you can see any specks inside the stone, or a thin textured line on the surface of your stone, this might be an inclusion. These don’t always cause a problem, but they can lower the value of your gemstone.
Inclusions can cause issues if they are on the surface, but this should be assessed by your jeweller beforehand. Some inclusions, even ones on the surface, will be perfectly safe!
