MORE ABOUT MONTANA SAPPHIRES
FROM UNLOVED TO LOVED
Once upon a time, in the gold rush era in America, Montana Sapphires were discovered and cast aside. Unaware of their alluring beauty, miners would simply throw rough gemstones back into the earth in search of gold. It wasn't until decades later that Tiffany's chief gemologist expressed an interest in these pebble-like stones.
In the 1930's much of the rough sapphire was being shipped to Europe to be cut and sold. It wasn't until after WWII that America reclaimed this stunning stone, establishing cutting houses close by so they could facet and create breathtaking jewellery with Montana Sapphires at home.
IS A MONTANA SAPPHIRE RIGHT FOR YOU?
Montana Sapphires are ethically mined and traceable, meaning that we can track their complete journey from start to finish. They're also incredibly beautiful. Could this be the gemstone for you?
All gemstones are ranked by strength on the Mohs Scale. With 10 as the strongest and 0 as the softest, Montana Sapphires are rated as 9, making them the second hardest gemstones after diamonds.
Sapphires are suitable to wear daily. Although, as with all jewellery, care should be taken when taking part in rigorous activities.
Like all Sapphires, those mined in Montana vary hugely in colour and brilliance. Each Sapphire set within our designs has been hand-selected by Jessica, and our new Montana Sapphire collection is made up of her favourite gemstone colours; blues and teals.
Alternative Sapphire colours can be sourced on request.
Some of the Montana Sapphires you see in jewellery have been heat-treated. This means they have been treated under different conditions to intensify their beautiful natural colours.
Although their natural colour is stunning, adding additional treatments can elevate their natural colour and brilliance.
